History by Bob Latimer

This place is utterly without defence. The sole defences are two six and a half ton guns, and yet the War and other Ministers are perfectly content and wrapped up in their ignorance as happy as larks, with their flippant answers in the House of Commons. I have gone into the whole question of defence and put up a report, but I suppose it will be considered facetious.

THE GOLF EXPERIENCE

Mauritius is the fourth country where golf was introduced by the Officers of the British Military after Scotland, England and India. The Mauritius Gymkhana Club golf course is the oldest one of the Southern Hemisphere for having golf played on its grounds since 1844.
The MGC golf course is 5.6 kilometres long and a par 68. Despite the fact that it is a relatively short course, it offers great challenges to the players. As it is very tight, precision and technical skills are called for. More interestingly, the MGC golf course is playable and enjoyable by golfers of all levels. The course comprises of 18 holes of which six holes of par 3, two holes of par 5 and finally ten holes of par 4. The shortest being hole No.5 playing 132 metres while the longest being hole No.6 playing 497 metres long. There is also a Night Driving range for those wanting to practise at late hours.

For the delight of vegetarians, and for the first time at your club, two new thalis have been introduced: a Mauritian veg thali and an Indian veg thali. We are confident that these two items will soon become favorite hot-sellers.

Our well renowned pizzas are homemade and freshly baked in our wood fired oven, have become a best seller at the Club. The new pizza card has been introduced on 1st June. 8 unique new pizza flavours have been creatively crafted for you. Our pizza innovations include: “Little India”, “Creamy Salmon & Pesto”, “Hot Mexican Chicken Ranch”, “Simply Cheesy Pepperoni”, “Oriental Bliss”, “China Town”, “Sea Grill”and “Quatro Fromaggi”. Our dough is thin and the available sizes are large (30cm) and small (20cm)

Sandwich amateurs can choose from an array of fresh and tasty sandwiches with thrilling fillings and tasty toppings ranging from MGC classic Club sandwich to baguettes multigrain, croquet monsieur, burgers and much more.

Quench your thirst with hot and cold beverages including alcohol free mocktails, milkshakes, ice tea and fresh fruit juices.

Stretch to the highs and drown the lows with an ice-cold glass of your favourite drink or a specialty cocktail taking in the sunset after another day’s work at our Sports Bar & Lounge, which boasts the scenic views over the greens of the oldest golf course of the Southern Hemisphere. A modern pergola with high grade balao wood structure and latest design semi-transparent covers and clear vinyl overlapping all around to keep the symbiosis with the greens around.

Catch your favourite teams playing live across multiple channels on our 70” TV screen to keep up to date with all the latest sporting actions whilst enjoying a selection of mouth-watering gastropub platters, baskets, burgers, and combos with a selection of dips to go along with our shots, signature cocktails and a range of international brews in a relaxed environment.

You might also want to just wind down in the “classy cosy” atmosphere of our lounge next to the swimming pool for a bubble tasting or a sumptuous cheese and wine party.  A modern twist to a traditional venue with its chic contemporary furniture for your aperitif or a digestive after a memorable dinner to prolong the evening.
